Overview and Scope

This intensive 8-hour course is tailored for professionals looking to broaden their leadership skills through a deeper understanding of the interplay between psychological safety and our intrinsic biological sense of safety, inspired by the transformative Polyvagal Theory (Porges, 1995).

As participants explore the biological roots of safety, they will comprehend the physiological processes that shape human actions and emotions, and how these are interconnected with the idea of psychological safety. This understanding will provide participants with tools to identify and manage these reactions in themselves and their teams effectively.

Α primary objective of this course is to nurture empathetic, conscious, and successful leaders. Leaders who can comprehend not only their own but also their teams' unconscious reactions to various scenarios, and who can adeptly steer these situations to enhance a sense of safety and boost overall team performance.

Content And Flow

During the program, participants will:

  • Be introduced to the way our Autonomic Nervous System is programmed to work in order to ensure survival and keep us safe.
  • Learn how responses of fear, anger, stress and shut down have an adaptive function within our system.
  • Link all the above with common emotional reactions that take place within the workplace or other contexts.
  • Learn to identify triggers and signals that lead to disregulation and away from safety both within individuals and in communal/ organizational contexts.
  • Explore the unique ways that their own systems react to stimuli from the environment that increase/ decrease the perception of safety.
  • Learn to identify and enhance sensations & feelings of safety and regulation.
  • Practice simple techniques that increase safety.

This course integrates experiential learning with theory. Participants will have the opportunity to both witness and experiment with bodily reactions that link to safety and enhance safety & regulation, as well as dysregulating experiences that threaten internal & interpersonal equilibrium. The course emphasizes the power of learning by doing, featuring group activities designed to help participants develop tactics to cultivate safe, efficient work environments.
